Checking how much uploads and downloads are on traffic through your router is the best way to determine if you are a heavy or light data user and you can be able to put a threshold or meter it or average for your daily use.
However, putting all those factors aside let us see how to check data usage on the WIFI router step by step. Since we cannot open the router and check we need a browser-based configuration utility to ensure that everything is effective.
Steps to check your Data Usage on the WIFI router.
Step 1: Install the Browser-based configuration utility firmware
Installing the firmware either in your PC or any device you should check that is compatible or within your reach. If it is a DD-WRT, then make sure you have a PC connected to link the WIFI router and the Firmware.
Step 2: Log in
Log in to the configuration utility for the WIFI router. If it is hard to open up always use the utility router documentation for efficiency so that it can be easier to determine the IP address you are in to link the router and the utility. Please enter the username and the default password and always note that they are case sensitive.
Step 3: Basic Home display.
The basic screen display is much import take a glance and locate the advanced section.
Step 4: Open Advanced Section.
When you locate the advanced section, then click the advanced setup. After then click on traffic meter, bandwidth, or network monitor whichever is convenient and available depending on the firmware on use; after you have clicked all that you will see a bandwidth interface that shows the upload and downloads of all connections to the WIFI and too can see all devices connected.
Step 5: View Your Bandwidth statistics.
Use the statistic section to access all the needed information. You can always refresh to re-update the statistics. Always remember to choose the range to see your data usage since the statistics will show previous month data usage up to current time usage plus all devices
Step 6: Analyze the usage of data.
Since our goal is how to check data usage on Wi-Fi router. The monitoring will not help you have change in terms of the data exchanged between various connections. You may decide to configure and enable traffic meter if you think your data usage is excessive and you would want to restrict in case you want to control your data usage then.
Step 7: Click at Traffic meter interface meter.
Select settings and enable the traffic or bandwidth cap meter and check the box. Moreover, select the desired data usage cap below.
Step 8: You can opt to set the volume control of your internet traffic by choosing the radio button.
• No limit: No restriction is to be applied.
• Download only: Here you put a restriction to the incoming data.
• Both direction: Here, you put a restriction on both incoming and outgoing data.
Step 9: Set the data limit.
You can opt to set the data limit to curb excessive usage of data.
Step 10: Restart counter now.
After setting the data and control volume, then restart the counter for new monitoring.
Step 11: Click Apply or Save button
After everything is set now, you can click save or apply button after you have been satisfied and checked your data usage and changed your preferences.
Step 12: Log out.
Ensure after checking your data that you have logged out of the Firmware interface in your PC or the browser.
